The guidelines are intended to support the Slovenian population in developing balanced, healthy and long-term sustainable dietary habits. At the same time, they provide a professional basis for the work of health care professionals, educational institutions, public institutions, food providers and all others involved in shaping the nutritional environment in Slovenia. As the outgoing government wrote on the government’s website when the document was published, the national dietary guidelines are based on the best available scientific evidence and modern insights into the relationship between nutrition, health and sustainable development.
