The continued operation of the Vipap combined wastewater treatment plant has been critical for the sanitation of approximately 16,000 residents across Krško and surrounding villages. Concerns regarding the facility’s operational status prompted prior warnings from the Inspectorate in January, which cautioned that ceasing treatment operations posed a significant danger to both human health and the environment, potentially allowing untreated wastewater to discharge into the Sava River. Due to these risks, the Municipality of Krško and the concessionaire, Kostak, commenced implementing essential measures at the plant on August 1st.
According to the municipality, these actions have established a “temporary regime” designed to ensure the continuous cleaning and management of municipal wastewater. While operations are reportedly ongoing under this temporary structure, the municipality noted that the full legal and complete transfer of management for the treatment plant remains pending. This interim arrangement is intended to bridge the gap until the formal administrative takeover is finalized.
The focus remains on maintaining consistent service delivery to prevent environmental contamination while the legal framework for the facility’s management is completed.
