A Chinese tycoon sentenced to 30 years in prison for fraud in the USA

A federal court in the United States has sentenced the Chinese billionaire Guo Wengui to 30 years in prison following his conviction on fraud charges involving over a billion dollars. Guo Wengui, once recognized as a prominent figure among Chinese businessmen, received the sentence for allegedly orchestrating a multi-billion dollar fraud scheme. The 57-year-old individual, also known by the names Ho Wan Kwok and Miles Guo, was apprehended by the FBI in March 2023 at his luxury apartment in Manhattan.

A jury reached a unanimous verdict on nine of the twelve counts presented in the indictment. These charges included securities fraud, bank fraud, and money laundering. According to prosecutors, Guo was accused of employing online tracking methods to manipulate stock market activities and illicitly acquire millions of dollars from investors.
