This canal is vital as it supports agricultural production for fields and vineyards spanning the areas of Gorizia, Gradišče, and Krmin. Due to the diminished flow, the river has dried up in several sections. The reduced volume of water discharging into the Soča has prompted local examinations of debris, including stones and branches, within the waterway.
According to reports from Primorski dnevnik, the confluence point with the Vipava River has remained dry since 2022. These observations are corroborated by reports from the Italian portal Ilg, highlighting persistent drought conditions. The overall low level of the river system underscores the current hydrological challenges.
While the recent storm provided some temporary increase in water volume, the sustained low discharge continues to impact dependent ecosystems and agricultural water supplies. Monitoring the flow of the river remains critical for managing resources across the region.
