Pogačar two minutes before all others, about 25 kilometers before the finish line, was not doing well

Race Sees Early Break Attempted as Pogačar Joins Lead Group

Fredrik Dversnes (Uno-X Mobility) and Cedric Beullens (Lotto-Intermarche) initiated an early breakaway during the opening stage of the race, featuring four distinct climbs. Shortly after the pair established an advantage, the main competition group began to concede ground. Dversnes launched his attack on the first categorized ascent, quickly distancing himself from Beullens.

The main group, disrupted by a crash 82 kilometers from the finish line, worked to close the gap, with riders increasingly battling for position. As the stage progressed, a further attempt to break away emerged, spearheaded by Tadej Pogačar. Joined by Brandon McNulty, Matthew Riccitello, Andrea Bagioli, Paul Double, and Magnus Cort, Pogačar accelerated the pace more than 70 kilometers from the finish.

He ultimately linked up with the initial escapee, Dversnes, but was unable to maintain the pace. The dynamic between Dversnes and Beullens remained central to the stage, while the main group continued its efforts to close the distance. The race showcased early tactical maneuvering and highlighted the challenges of the demanding terrain.
