Where are the Slovenian roads most congested?

Motorway Disruptions Cause Significant Traffic Delays Across Slovenia

Ongoing construction projects are causing substantial traffic disruptions across a significant portion of Slovenia’s motorway network. The primary area of concern is between Maribor and Ljubljana, specifically the part of the A1 motorway between Fram and Slovenska Bistrica. Currently, half of the motorway is closed to accommodate construction, while the remaining section operates with only two lanes in each direction.

Despite the continued flow of traffic, speeds have been reduced, and significant delays are being experienced. Experts anticipate these conditions will persist until the summer of 2024. Further complicating matters, construction work is scheduled to begin in June, extending the disruption between Slovenske Konjice and Dramlje.

This will reduce the motorway to a single lane in each direction, raising concerns about potential gridlock. Existing traffic bottlenecks are already severe. During peak periods, motorists traveling to or from Ljubljana can face travel times of up to two hours.

Simultaneously, the section of the A1 motorway between Ljubljana and Domžale is experiencing increased traffic volume, leading to the reduction of lanes to two. Authorities are advising drivers to plan their journeys carefully and to allow for extended travel times.
