Conference to Examine the Strategic Role of Sport in Destination Development

LJUBLJANA – A conference, “More than a Game: The Strategic Role of Sport in Modern Society,” will be held on June 8th at Cukrarna in Ljubljana, focusing on the evolving landscape of Sports Destinations of the Future. The event will feature a panel discussion from 11:55 to 12:40, moderated by Adi Omerović, host of the “Svet” show on Kanal A. The panel will bring together key figures to explore the significant impact of sport on tourism development.

Participants include Mag. Karmen Novarlič, head of the communication sector for business publicity at the Slovenian Tourist Organisation; Dubravko Šimenc, head of outdoor, sports, and cycling tourism product development at the Croatian Tourist Organisation; Samo Turel, mayor of the Municipality of Nova Gorica; and Samo Logar, deputy mayor of the Municipality of Ljubljana. The discussion will center on how sport contributes to the growth of tourist destinations.

Specifically, the panel will address questions regarding visitor attraction, seasonal extension strategies, and the potential for creating sustainable, long-term value within these locations.
