From January 2021 to January 2022, Roberts was the interim protocol chief of the United States. In March, she announced at a hearing that she would now be able to travel to Ljubljana after Trump confirmed her appointment. Roberts is a career diplomat who has been working in the State Department or protocol department for over 20 years.
During the previous administration, she was also acting head of protocol. “If I am confirmed, I will try to ensure that Slovenia remains a key part of deterrence and defense of the Euro-Atlantic area. Slovenia’s strategic location at the crossroads of Central Europe and Western Balkans also offers opportunities for deepening transatlantic trade, which is one of the pillars of the global economy and American prosperity,” she said before confirmation.
