The last steps to the 16th government: handing over the business after the vote

Slovenian National Assembly to Vote on Janša’s 16th Government

Two months following the parliamentary elections, the National Assembly is scheduled to finalize the formation of Slovenia’s 16th government, marking the fourth led by Prime Minister Janez Janša. The proposed government team will consist of 15 ministers, reflecting the composition of the governing coalition. The largest coalition partners – the SDS – will hold seven ministerial seats.

The National Community Party (NSi) and the Democrats will each secure four, while the Moderate Slovene List (SLS) has been excluded from a ministerial position. The smaller Focus party has also been allocated one ministerial seat. Following presentations of their government plans on Monday and Tuesday, all candidates have received approval from their respective parliamentary committees.

The National Assembly is now expected to vote on the list of ministerial candidates later today. A substantial debate, lasting approximately eight hours, is anticipated before the vote. Confirmation of the entire list requires the support of a majority of the deputies present.

The process aims to establish the composition of the new government following the recent elections. The outcome of this vote will determine the structure of the Slovenian government.
