There is no longer a government, the Palestinian flag now flies from the presidential palace

President Pirc Musar Displays Palestinian Flag at Presidential Palace

Ljubljana – President Nataša Pirc Musar has placed the Palestinian flag on the front of the Presidential Palace, citing ongoing concerns regarding the situation in Gaza and the West Bank. The flag, previously removed from the exterior of government buildings following the formation of the Janez Janša government, will remain visible for one week. Speaking about the decision, President Pirc Musar stated that the display serves as a reminder to those who visit her office.

She emphasized that the flag represents a significant symbol – “a symbol of the brutal violation of international humanitarian law and human rights not only in Palestine, but also elsewhere in the world.”

The President highlighted the flag’s purpose as a call for respect for “the fundamental civilizational principle: human dignity – for all.” She underscored that despite the current circumstances, “Genocide against Palestinians has not been stopped and people in Gaza and the West Bank do not live in peace and dignity.”

Following the week-long display, the flag will be moved to internal spaces within the presidential palace. The move reflects the President’s continued commitment to raising awareness of the situation and advocating for human rights.

  1. This action demonstrates a clear and direct expression of solidarity with the people of Palestine.

  2. What prompted the President to re-display the Palestinian flag after it was previously removed?
