The tiger escaped, attacked a man, and the man died two months later

On May 17, an incident occurred at a private tiger sanctuary in Dölzig, near Leipzig, after a tiger escaped its enclosure. During the confrontation, the animal attacked a man, sustaining severe injuries. The Leipzig prosecutor’s office announced that the man ultimately died on Friday.

In response to the incident, investigators have ordered an autopsy to determine if the death was a direct consequence of the attack, considering potential charges of manslaughter related to negligence in maintaining proper care. The results of this examination have not yet been released. Following the escape, police tracked the tiger for several hours within the surrounding gardens.

Due to the ongoing danger posed to the public, the police ultimately shot the animal. German media reports indicate that the owner of the tiger, who is a former circus trainer, has faced previous criticism and controversy concerning the upkeep of the private sanctuary. Following the event, she publicly denied that she was entirely responsible for the fatality.

The investigation continues to focus on the circumstances surrounding the escape of the tiger and the resulting injuries to the man.
