Fuel Prices Stabilized with Excise Duty Adjustments
Recent adjustments to excise duties on petrol and diesel are impacting prices at fuel stations located outside of motorways and expressways. With a reduced excise duty of 0.42625 euros per litre applied to 95-octane petrol, retailers are currently selling the fuel at 1.683 euros per litre. Without this regulatory intervention, prices would have risen to approximately 1.763 euros per litre.
Diesel prices are also subject to this duty, currently set at 1.734 euros per litre. If unregulated, the price would have been approximately 1.816 euros per litre. The Ministry of the Interior has outlined a new methodology for calculating future fuel prices at these stations.
This method will incorporate fluctuations in global petroleum derivative markets and the euro-dollar exchange rate. Calculations will be based on these movements, ensuring transparency and reflecting current market conditions. The current excise duty structure remains in place, providing a stable baseline for pricing at stations outside major roadways.
The changes aim to maintain reasonable fuel costs for consumers, with all prices quoted in euros per litre.
