HiPP Issues Recall Following Rat Poison Contamination in Baby Food
Vienna, Austria – HiPP, a prominent baby food manufacturer, has initiated a widespread recall of its “carrot and potato” food product, a 190-gram jar, following the discovery of rat poison contamination. A customer identified the issue, and thankfully, no adverse health effects were reported after the affected food was encountered. The Austrian police issued an urgent warning to consumers, advising against opening any jars displaying specific characteristics.
These include a white label with a red circle affixed to the bottom, and lids that are damaged or improperly sealed. Consumers are urged to immediately hand these jars over to the police. HiPP has taken swift action, removing all products from shelves within the Austrian retail chain, Spara.
Further investigation revealed a similar jar of the same food was purchased in Gradisca in Carinthia, prompting a broader investigation by the police. Police spokesman Helmut Marban stated that the jars are currently under investigation as part of the ongoing inquiry. The focus remains on preventing potential exposure and ensuring consumer safety.
The incident highlights the importance of vigilance regarding food safety standards and the role of law enforcement in protecting public health.
