Tourism Shifts as Dubai Sees Decline, Opportunity for Slovenia
Dubai remained a popular holiday destination throughout February, attracting nearly 20 million tourists last year. However, projections indicate a significant decrease in visitors this year, anticipated to be around 10 million. The shift reflects a global trend driven by ongoing international conflicts.
Many Europeans are seeking respite from war zones, and travel research indicates a persistent desire for travel amongst this demographic. “Travel research shows that Europeans’ desire for travel remains very strong,” stated Martina Gojkošek from the Slovenian Tourist Organization. This situation presents an opportunity for neighboring Slovenia.
Experts highlight Slovenia’s strategic location, offering convenient access for travelers by car from nearby retail locations. Maja Uran Maravič, from the Faculty of Tourism Studies, noted, “Slovenia has one plus, which is its own location – that is, fast access by car from nearby shops. There are enough of these nearby shops to be full.”
Safety remains a key consideration.
While the current global climate creates an opportunity for tourism, it’s crucial to acknowledge the ongoing instability in other regions. “This can be an opportunity, but we must be aware that it is a war zone,” added Uran Maravič. Looking ahead, Slovenia is positioning itself as a viable alternative for Europeans seeking a secure and accessible travel experience this year.
