Pipan Returns to Maribor Following Three Decades
Aleš Pipan is set to return to his roots, rejoining the city of Maribor where his distinguished coaching career began. The veteran coach will be returning to the club where he initially gained prominence between January 1994 and March 1996. During his time with Maribor, Pipan guided the team through a period of significant competition, leading them to the semi-finals of the national championship and a participation in the Radivoje Korać Cup.
This marked the start of a remarkably successful career for the former Maribor coach. Following his departure from the Slovenian club, Pipan’s coaching expertise led him to Pivovarna Laško, where he achieved notable success, including qualification for the Euroleague. He also guided Krupa to participation in prestigious European club competitions.
Notably, Pipan achieved a landmark victory in 2006, leading Slovenia to its first-ever appearance in the World Championship. His tenure included further accomplishments, including twice reaching the quarterfinals of the European Championship with the Slovenian national team. Pipan’s career extended beyond Slovenia, encompassing roles with the Polish national team (2010-2013) and the national team of North Macedonia (2013), as well as coaching the Ljubljana team.
