The Slovenian coast has received new infrastructure designed to improve accessibility for individuals with mobility impairments. Two SEATRAC devices were recently installed on the beaches of Portorož and the Riviera in Piran, providing easier and safer access to the sea. These specialized devices are engineered to allow users with various mobility challenges to reach the water independently.
The system operates using solar energy, providing a motorized seat that guides users from the main coast area directly to the sea. Crucially, the device also facilitates the user’s return to the beach area after swimming. According to local reports, the total investment for the purchase and installation of both units amounted to 74,700 euros, excluding VAT.
A key feature highlighted about the system is its adaptability. The devices are mounted on movable guides that can be adjusted to accommodate fluctuations in sea levels, ensuring secure and reliable access regardless of the tide. The integration of these advanced devices aims to enhance the recreational opportunities available along the Slovenian coast.
By mitigating barriers to entry, the installations are expected to improve the overall experience of accessing the sea for a wider segment of the population. This development represents a significant upgrade in public accessibility infrastructure along the coastline.
