Four Italian airports with restrictions on fuel consumption

Air BP Italia, the parent company of British petroleum giant BP, has issued guidance to airlines regarding flight operations following disruptions in the Middle East. According to reports from Italian news agency ANSA, the company is advising that rescue and state aircraft, alongside flights exceeding three hours, should be prioritized. Restrictions on other flights are expected to remain in place until at least Thursday.

This decision comes amid ongoing concerns about the closure of the Hormuz Strait, a critical waterway for global oil shipments. The Italian pilots’ union, ANPAC, stated that it does not anticipate widespread flight cancellations during the Easter holiday period. However, the union cautioned that the situation could escalate if the blockage in the Hormuz Strait persists.

ANPAC highlighted the potential for significant disruptions to air travel if the issue remains unresolved, suggesting that the current restrictions may become a more permanent reality. The company’s directive reflects the heightened uncertainty surrounding international air travel due to the geopolitical developments in the region.
