Serbian Parliament Introduces Proposal for New Government Formation Process

Belgrade – The Serbian Democratic Party (SDS) has submitted a proposal to the Assembly for a revised law governing government formation. The proposed changes would stipulate that each coalition will determine the ministry portfolios within the new government. Speaking on the matter, President of the Assembly Zoran Stevanović stated that the election of a prime minister could potentially occur in the first round of voting.

Stevanović indicated that a candidate would be selected based on their ability to secure the support of 46 parliamentary votes. He asserted that discussions regarding a coalition partnership with the right-wing government are currently not underway. Stevanović maintained that the Assembly will not collaborate with former Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić, citing a prior commitment to exclude him from any coalition arrangements.

The proposal for spremembe (changes) to the government law is being considered within the Assembly. Stevanović previously affirmed a willingness for political dialogue with the SDS and its leader, Milomir Savić, during a visit to the Electoral Commission. The Assembly will now proceed to debate and vote on the proposed legislation.
