Slovenian Party Criticizes Proposed Economic Reforms
Alenka Bratušek of Svoboda expressed strong concerns regarding a proposed set of legislation introduced by parties representing the “tretjega bloka” – NSi, SLS, and Fokus, alongside Demokrati in Resnica – currently before the Slovenian parliament. She argued that the vast majority of the proposed solutions would not require an immediate, interventionist approach but should instead be addressed through systemic legal changes. Bratuškova criticized the proposed legislation’s title, deeming it inaccurate and unsuitable for its intended purpose.
She suggested a revised title reflecting the reality: “Increased Benefits for the Wealthy, Neglect for Young and Average Citizens.”
The party estimates the financial implications of the proposals to be significantly higher than the figures cited by the introducing parties, which estimated around €571 million. Svoboda’s assessment suggests a considerably larger cost, nearing €1 billion. Bratušek highlighted the omission of projected pension fund withdrawals from the proposal’s calculations.
She asserted that the “tretjega bloka”’s efforts would disproportionately benefit those with higher incomes.
