President in Cerklje: Strengthening the military aviation is necessary

Slovenian President Highlights Key Moments in Military Aviation History

Ljubljana – During a speech to the public, Slovenian President Natasa Pirc Musar referenced two significant milestones in the nation’s military aviation history. She highlighted the first combat flight of the Ljubljana Air Squadron, which occurred during the battles for the northern border in 1919, and the deployment of the Gazela helicopter to the Territorial Defence during Slovenia’s War of Independence. The President emphasized that both actions represent acts of courage, determination, and a steadfast commitment to defending Slovenian territory and the nation’s right to freedom and sovereignty.

These events, she stated, laid the groundwork for the development of the Slovenian military aviation. “They established the foundations of the Slovenian military aviation and proved that the look into the Slovenian sky has always been accompanied by a strong awareness and responsibility to the homeland and the safety of its people,” Pirc Musar noted. She expressed satisfaction with recent investments in the modernization of the Slovenian military, reflecting a renewed commitment to national defense.

The Jerneja Mola military academy in Cerklje ob Krki was also referenced, signifying ongoing efforts within the Slovenian military. The speech underscored the importance of Slovenia’s military heritage and its continued role in safeguarding the nation’s security.
