A 35-year-old man died following a shark attack while diving off Michaelmas Island, southeast of Perth, on Saturday morning. The incident occurred as the man was spearfishing with family members near the island. According to initial reports, the man was attacked while underwater.
A boat responded to the scene and transported him to shore, where emergency responders were already present. Despite immediate medical efforts, including resuscitation attempts, the man was pronounced dead. Western Australian police have confirmed the incident and stated they will prepare a report for the coroner.
This marks the second fatal shark attack in the state within the last month. In a similar incident, a 38-year-old man died in an attack off Horseshoe Reef ridge, north-west of Rottnest Island near Perth, the previous month. Authorities are investigating both attacks and emphasizing the need for caution in coastal waters.
