At approximately 2:00 p.m., the Nova Gorica Police Department (PD) was alerted to the disappearance of a resident from the Dom starejših občanov Vrtojba. The Nova Gorica police immediately initiated a comprehensive search effort to locate the missing elderly man. The search operation was coordinated by the Nova Gorica police and involved a significant mobilization of emergency personnel.

Participating groups included police officers from various villages across the municipalities of Šempeter–Vrtojba and Miren–Kostanjevica, alongside personnel from the City Municipality of Nova Gorica. Support was provided by firefighters from PGD Šempeter, professional firefighters from the Public Institution of Firefighting of Nova Gorica, and members of the Emergency Response Unit. Additionally, guide dogs from several units assisted in the search.
