Fuel Prices in Germany Rise Amidst Middle East Conflict
Ongoing conflict in the Middle East is contributing to elevated fuel prices across Europe, with Germany experiencing a significant increase in petrol and diesel costs. The situation is largely driven by disruptions to shipping through the Hormuz Strait, a critical waterway for global oil supplies. According to data from the German Automobile Club (ADAC), the average price for a liter of petrol in Germany reached 2.074 euros as of last week, while diesel averaged 2.150 euros.
These figures represent a substantial increase compared to pre-conflict prices, with petrol prices up by 30 percent and diesel prices up by 40 percent. In response to the rising costs, the German parliament has approved a temporary tax reduction of approximately 17 cents per liter, set to take effect on May 1st and remain in place until the end of June. This measure is intended to alleviate the financial strain on consumers impacted by the surge in fuel prices.
The increase in fuel costs began in early April and continues to be influenced by geopolitical factors. PIXABAY/PRO FILM/PRO FILM
