Is there soon a limit on alcohol sales due to drunk tourists in Split?

The Emergency Medical Aid Institute of the Split-Dalmatia County reported receiving over 50 calls in June related to intoxicated individuals. Among those cases were two minors. Unofficial data suggests that a significant portion of these interventions are attributable to young foreign tourists visiting Split in large numbers during the summer months.

Local residents have reported frequently encountering intoxicated tourists lying on the roads when commuting to work, particularly toward the end of the week, necessitating calls for emergency assistance. Statistics for 2024 indicate that the largest segment of overnight visitors to Split are individuals aged 18 to 24, a finding corroborated by police sources confirming that young people continue to represent the largest share of the city’s visitor base. Separately, the Croatian Parliament passed amendments to the Trade Act at the end of May.

These changes grant local units the authority to potentially close down operations. These developments cover both public health concerns related to visitor populations and changes in regional administrative law.
