Multiple incidents involving forest fires were reported in the area serviced by the Žalec Fire Brigade over the course of Wednesday. On Wednesday afternoon, shortly after 2 pm, a fire ignited in a forest location near the RTP transformer in Zalog, situated near Šempeter. A coordinated response was mounted by several fire brigades, including PGD Šempeter in Savinja Valley, PGD Žalec, PGD Gotovlje, and PGD Ponikva pri Žalcu.
According to the Žalec Fire Brigade, the incident was successfully contained, preventing any wider spread. The initial fire burned an estimated 600 square meters of forest area. Later that day, another localized fire required intervention.
This secondary incident occurred at night, opposite the Golden Cross in Žalec. The focus of this effort was weeds burning in several locations bordering a hop garden. Personnel from the fire brigade extinguished this blaze, ensuring that the small fire did not escalate or spread to surrounding areas.
The prompt actions of the various fire brigades were credited with managing both events. The swift response allowed authorities to control the scope of the fires, limiting the damage to specific, contained areas of woodland and agricultural borders. The successful management of these multiple fires underscores the preparedness of the local emergency services.
