Gneča against the sea: Croats in the columns before the extended weekend

Significant Traffic Congestion Reported Near Postojna and Zagreb

Extensive traffic delays are currently impacting roadways in Slovenia and Croatia. A substantial traffic jam, exceeding two kilometers in length, developed early this afternoon on the Ljubljana western bypass towards Brezovica, specifically between the Unec junction and the Postojna exit heading towards Koper. Overall traffic volume in the area stretches over seven kilometers.

Simultaneously, prolonged traffic congestion is being observed on the Croatian side, coinciding with the commencement of school holidays on June 12th. The Croatian Automobile Club anticipates increased traffic due to several factors, including the upcoming Day of Fighting against Fascism on Monday, June 22nd – a working day – and potential extended weekend or vacation travel. Furthermore, heavy traffic is predicted on city roads in Zagreb, particularly around the exits leading to the city, including the A1 motorway sections between Zagreb-Ploče-Karamatići.

The situation is expected to persist for several hours. Authorities are advising motorists to allow for significantly increased travel times and to consider alternative routes where possible. There is considerable traffic volume across the region.

  1. “This is incredibly frustrating – I was hoping to get home before the weekend, but the traffic is a nightmare.”
