The highest-elevation farm in Slovenia, situated in Bukovec under Raduha within the municipality of Solčava, was severely impacted by a lightning-ignited fire on the night of June 22. The blaze resulted in extensive destruction, consuming multiple farm buildings, the upper sections of the associated house, and all livestock housed on the property. Two individuals sustained injuries in the incident.
One of the affected parties, an older resident of the farm, remains hospitalized for treatment related to burns. Following the incident, initial damage assessments indicated potential losses amounting to half a million euros. However, Katarina Prelesnik, the Mayor of the Municipality of Solčava, stated that the actual costs required for the full restoration of the farm are anticipated to exceed this preliminary figure.
The official investigation has concluded that lightning was the direct cause of the destructive fire at the bukovnik farm. In the days following the fire, clean-up operations have been underway. Crews have systematically removed damaged agricultural machinery and other materials from the site.
Firefighters have also cleared the burned remains of the farm from the area adjacent to the homestead.
