Yesterday afternoon, at approximately 4:17 pm, local police received reports regarding an incident that occurred in the Soča settlement within the Bovec municipality. The incident involved a foreign national who fell into the Soča River. According to initial reports, the injured individual, a 57-year-old citizen of the United States, was walking on the footpath adjacent to the Soča bridge.
She was accompanied by her 67-year-old husband, who provided descriptions to the police in Nova Gorica. After walking approximately ten meters, the woman reportedly slipped. This initial fall caused her to drop about two meters down the steep riverbank before plunging an estimated twelve meters into the Soča River.
She sustained head injuries from the fall. Rescue efforts were immediately mounted by bystanders. A nearby swimmer first assisted by stabilizing the injured person in the water.
Subsequently, her husband joined the rescue efforts. Working together, the individuals managed to retrieve the woman and bring her safely back to the riverbank. Emergency services were notified of the incident following the initial reports to the police.
The swift actions of the nearby swimmers were critical in ensuring the victim received necessary aid and was stabilized following the fall.
