Cracks on the International Space Station, astronauts ready for evacuation

International Space Station Conducts Repair Following Air Leaks

NASA has initiated precautionary measures on the International Space Station (ISS) following the detection of air leaks within the Russian segment. Astronauts were directed to don their spacesuits and prepare to utilize the attached spacecraft as a potential evacuation route. The issue stems from persistent cracks forming in the Zvezda service module, specifically the “PrK” tunnel.

Roscosmos, the Russian space agency, has been monitoring these cracks for some time. A recent leak prompted a more comprehensive repair effort currently underway. As a safety protocol, all four members of the SpaceX Crew-12 crew and one NASA astronaut were instructed to wear their spacesuits while the repairs are conducted in space.

This proactive step ensures the crew’s safety during the ongoing maintenance. The situation highlights ongoing efforts to maintain the integrity of the station. NASA and Roscosmos are diligently working to address the cracks and secure the station’s atmosphere.

Further updates will be provided as the repair progresses.
