Police Investigate Damage to Memorial in Ljubljana

Ljubljana – Police are currently conducting a review of the recently discovered monument in the Rog Exclusion Zone and are gathering reports of suspected criminal damage to the structure. Authorities are collecting notifications of any observed damage and will forward the information to the relevant state prosecutor for further investigation. The monument, erected in October 2023 within the former Rog factory grounds – now the Rog Center – serves as a memorial to those missing during the conflict.

Co-authored by Aleksander Vujović, along with Vuk Ćosić and Irena Woelle, the monument was intended as a contemplative space and a versatile area for public use, including potential recreational activities for children. Aleksander Vujović, the monument’s co-author who is currently participating in a professional residency in London, expressed his dismay regarding the incident. “The monument was conceived not solely as a memorial, but also as a space for daily engagement and play,” he stated.

“To see it transformed into a subject of adult interpretation is deeply unacceptable.”

The monument’s location within the Rog Exclusion Zone highlights its significance as a site of remembrance. Investigations are ongoing, and the findings will be presented to the appropriate legal authorities.

  1. This senseless act of vandalism is a deeply troubling disrespect for those who went missing and their families.
