Police Investigate Damage to Memorial in Ljubljana’s Rog Center
Ljubljana – Police are currently conducting a review of the recently discovered monument in the Rog Exclusion Zone, following reports of suspected criminal damage to the site. Officers are gathering notifications of any observed damage to the monument and related property. The findings will be submitted to the appropriate state prosecutor for further investigation.
The monument, erected in October 2023 in the courtyard of the former Rog factory – now the Rog Center – commemorates the disappeared and serves as a space for remembrance. Co-author Aleksander Vujović, who is currently participating in a professional residency in London, expressed his dismay regarding the incident. “The monument was conceived as a contemplative space, intended for both memory and everyday use, including play for children,” Vujović stated.
“To see it transformed into a ‘painted’ monument for a specific group of adults is deeply unacceptable.”
The project, signed by Vujović, Vuk Ćosić, and Irena Woelle, aims to acknowledge the suffering experienced during a difficult period. Authorities are working to determine the extent of the damage to this significant space in Ljubljana.
