‘You have granted permission for Israel to torture Palestinians’

Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, asserted that “torture in israel is actually a state policy.” She presented her latest report to the UN Human Rights Council, directly accusing israel of systematic abuse. “Israel was actually given permission to torture Palestinians because the governments of most of your countries allowed it, your ministers,” she stated. “And what once worked in the shadows is now being carried out openly,” she critically observed.

Albanese highlighted the regime’s nature, describing it as “organized humiliation, pain and degradation, which is confirmed at the highest political levels.” The report, titled “Torture and Genocide,” detailed the extensive scope of the alleged practices. The Special Rapporteur emphasized that the conditions in Gaza remain particularly concerning. She underscored that israel’s actions represent a serious breach of international human rights standards.

The report’s findings indicate a troubling trend, suggesting that the authorization for such actions has persisted for an extended period.
