Police officers from the Koper Police Department were alerted on Monday evening regarding a 37-year-old man in the Maribor Police Department area who was reportedly acting erratically and operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. The police initiated a pursuit after tracking the vehicle. The initial attempt to intercept the car occurred at 9:21 pm in Dramlje.
At this point, the driver briefly stopped in a parking lane before suddenly accelerating and continuing onto the motorway. According to the Koper Police Department, the driver exhibited highly variable speeds, moving from approximately 60 km/h up to 220 km/h. The police maintained a continuous pursuit, using light and sound signals multiple times in an effort to safely halt the vehicle.
While the department prepared to use specialized equipment, such as a vehicle for forced stopping, they ultimately decided against its deployment due to safety concerns. The police effort involved tracking the dangerous driving patterns of the suspect. Despite repeated attempts to signal a stop, the individual continued to drive at excessive speeds on the motorway.
The incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by police when managing high-speed pursuits involving impaired driving.
