The Slovenian Firefighters’ Union initiated a strike at the outset of the month. Their action follows a prolonged period where they sought to start collective bargaining regarding professional firefighting activities. For nearly years, the union has been working towards this goal, and almost half of the initial issues had been successfully agreed upon with the prior government.
All articles of the collective agreement were meticulously coordinated with the current government by September of last year. Despite this extensive collaboration, no formal signing occurred. At a recent meeting in early March, featuring Minister of Defense Borut Sajovic, a proposal of nine items was presented.
These items, with further coordination, could potentially be incorporated into the collective agreement. However, the union maintains that certain key elements must be included, such as the proper regulation of annual leave, a guaranteed wage, the provision for purchasing a retirement pension for professional firefighters, and limitations on permanent staffing.
