USA at Zampolli’s suggestion: Iran welcome at the Olympics

Rubio Rejects Claims of US Request to Bar Iranian Delegation from Olympics

U.S. Senator Marco Rubio rejected assertions made on Thursday regarding a request from Washington to prevent the Iranian team from participating in the upcoming Olympics. Speaking to reporters, Rubio stated that no one from the United States advised the Iranian delegation not to travel to the games.

The controversy centers around the potential inclusion of certain members of the Iranian delegation, specifically those linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. Rubio emphasized that the issue isn’t with the athletes themselves, but rather with accompanying individuals. “Nobody from the US told them they could not come,” Rubio explained.

“The problem with Iran is not their athletes. It’s other people they want to bring with them and some of whom have ties to the Revolutionary Guard.”

He indicated that the U.S. government reserves the right to assess the affiliations of individuals within the delegation and could potentially prevent entry for those deemed connected to the Revolutionary Guard.

“We may not be able to let them in, but that’s not the case for the athletes themselves,” Rubio concluded. The debate highlights ongoing concerns surrounding potential security implications for the Iranian team at the Olympics.
