Vodnikov Trg Revitalization Project Unveiled, Reconnecting with a 20-Year-Old Vision
A significant project is underway to revitalize Vodnikov trg in Ljubljana, Slovenia, a comprehensive initiative rooted in a previously unrealized concept from the 2004 mayoral campaign of Zoran Janković. The ambitious undertaking includes a multi-faceted approach to modernize the central marketplace area. The core of the project centers around the comprehensive renovation and expansion of the Mahrova house.
Alongside this, a four-story underground parking structure will be constructed beneath the existing open marketplace on Vodnikov trg. Furthermore, the marketplace itself will undergo a complete renovation. The initiative also addresses critical communal infrastructure needs.
This includes the construction of new gas and electricity networks, alongside the relocation of a portion of the public water network, specifically addressing fecal and meteoric sewage, and telecommunication water lines on Vodnikov trg. Following the renovation of Mahrova house, the covered market will transition into the building, with plans for a further culinary market to be established. A central atrium, covered by a glass roof, will connect the new and existing structures, providing a flexible space for public events.
The building’s continued functionality remains a key element of the overall design.
