Washington has intensified its actions against the communist island in recent months. This escalation involved a significant reduction in oil supplies to Venezuela, Cuba’s primary source, coupled with the imposition of additional tariffs on other suppliers. Simultaneously, the United States labeled Havana as an “extremely dangerous” threat.
The resulting effects have been acutely felt within Cuba. Due to the successful implementation of an oil blockade, widespread power outages have emerged in the capital, and substantial garbage accumulation has become a significant problem. Hospitals are facing severe difficulties, struggling to admit patients and maintain operational operating rooms because of the ongoing energy crisis.
As previously reported, Cuba ceased importing oil from the United States on January 9th, a direct consequence of the American blockade. A Russian tanker, the Anatoly Kolodkin, carrying nearly 730,000 barrels of oil, has been navigating towards Cuba for an extended period. Jorge Piñón, an expert from the University of Texas’s Energy Institute, confirmed his observation of the vessel.
The situation highlights the continued strain on Cuba’s access to vital resources, demonstrating the impact of the United States’ policies regarding oil and its relationship with Cuba.
