A recent survey involving over 7,000 British football supporters, predominantly consistent fans, revealed a significant lack of enthusiasm for the implementation of VAR. The findings indicated that only a tiny fraction of respondents – just 2% – supported the assertion that video assistant refereeing enhances the game’s enjoyment. Furthermore, the survey demonstrated a widespread rejection of VAR, with only 3% of the fans believing it positively impacted the stadium atmosphere.
A substantial 91% expressed disagreement, highlighting a clear sentiment against the technology’s presence. The results strongly suggest that the majority of British fans would actually prefer to watch matches without the intervention of video technology. This preference was overwhelmingly evident, with 81% of those surveyed stating their desire to avoid VAR.
Despite this clear indication of public opinion, it appears increasingly difficult for football authorities to acknowledge and respond to the concerns of the fans. The voices of these supporters, who overwhelmingly oppose VAR, seem largely ignored by those in leadership positions.

A shocking statistic indeed.
