Maribor police authorities detained three citizens, aged 19, 20, and 21, from Bosnia and Herzegovina last week. The individuals were taken into custody due to suspicion of involvement in six separate criminal offenses. The charges detailed include two counts of robbery, two counts of light bodily injury, one charge of violence, and one count of attempted extortion.
According to the PU Maribor, one of the detained suspects has a previous record with the police for similar criminal activities. Investigations revealed that the suspects employed a sophisticated method of deception. They reportedly created a fake user profile through a web application, using the guise of a younger woman to communicate with three different victims.
Following the online interaction, the suspects arranged meetings with the victims in the Maribor area during July. During these meetings, the suspects allegedly pressured the victims into signing legal contracts that were purportedly in the victims’ names but were, in fact, orchestrated by the suspects. The police investigation focused on how the group systematically built trust online before executing their fraudulent scheme in person.
The accumulation of these various offenses—ranging from physical assault to financial fraud—led to the arrests. Authorities continue to investigate the full scope of the alleged criminal network.
