Maui Resident Documents Beach Altercation Involving Tourist and Unidentified Man
Lahaina, Maui – A resident of Maui, Kaylee Schnitzer, captured a concerning incident on video while observing sea lion activity near the coastline. Schnitzer was documenting the behavior of a female sea lion, locally known as Lani, playing in the shallow waters off Lahaina when a tourist approached the animal. According to Schnitzer, a woman was initially too close to the sea lion, prompting Schnitzer to film the scene.
She noted existing warnings for tourists to maintain a safe distance from the marine mammals. The situation escalated when an unidentified man joined the woman on the beach. Schnitzer recounted witnessing the man pick up a stone approximately the size of a coconut and throw it at the tourist.
“I couldn’t believe my eyes – did he really do that?” she stated. Schnitzer confronted the man, asking, “What are you doing, why are you throwing the stone at me?” The incident occurred when, Schnitzer explained, the woman was present. The video footage is currently being reviewed, and authorities are investigating the incident.
