The Romanian Alpine Club recently hosted a safety course designed for its experienced members. The primary objective of the training was to instruct participants on fundamental safety techniques required when navigating challenging mountain terrain. During the course, an incident occurred involving four individuals.
According to reports, the group became ensnared by a single metal nail, which functions as a mooring point hammered into a rock crevice. It was determined that the combined weight of the four people exceeded the structural capacity of the single nail, causing it to give way. Details regarding the installation of the nail—whether it was placed by the participants themselves or was pre-existing—remain unclear.
The incident resulted in serious consequences. Three men sustained injuries, and one woman, a 36-year-old dentist employed in Bucharest, passed away. Following the event, the police initiated a criminal procedure concerning the charges of causing bodily injury.
