Cruise Ship Linked to Illness Outbreak; Multiple Deaths Confirmed
An outbreak of illness has been identified among passengers aboard the Hondius cruise ship, operated by Oceanwide Expeditions. The Dutch company’s vessel, carrying 170 passengers and approximately 70 crew members, is currently undergoing investigation following a cluster of infections. According to information released on social network X, one infected patient is receiving intensive care in South Africa.
The BBC reports that this individual is a British citizen. To date, one confirmed case has been identified in laboratory testing; however, several other suspected infections remain under investigation. All passengers and crew members are receiving medical care.
The World Health Organization (WHO) is conducting a detailed epidemiological investigation to determine the source and spread of the illness. The Hondius departed from Ushuaia, Argentina, and tracking data is being analyzed. The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that two of the deceased are Dutch citizens.
Authorities are working to identify all individuals affected. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
