Slovenia to Commemorate National Independence Day with Formal Ceremony

Ljubljana, Slovenia – A formal ceremony marking the Day of National Independence will commence at 9:15 pm tonight in front of the Parliament building. The event, a public holiday, will celebrate the 35th anniversary of Slovenia’s declaration of independence. The celebration will feature a modern, multi-sensory stage designed to offer attendees a comprehensive overview of the historical process leading to Slovenia’s formation as a state.

This anniversary commemorates the pivotal moment in 1991 when the Slovenian Assembly adopted key documents outlining the path to independence following years of dedicated efforts. On June 26, 1991, Slovenia formally declared its independence, with the hoisting of the Slovenian flag in Republic Square, Ljubljana. The program will include a cultural and artistic presentation incorporating music, poetry, dance, and storytelling.

Following the performance, President Nataša Pirc Musar and Prime Minister Janez Janša will deliver closing remarks. This national event underscores Slovenia’s journey towards independence and remains a significant date in the country’s history.
