Mountain Hare Hospitalized Following Attack in Slovenia

A mountain hare was treated following a reported incident involving a marten in the village of Mali vrh, Žirovnica, Slovenia, yesterday afternoon. Emergency services received the report around 16:00. The Radovljica mountain rescue team initially provided first aid to the injured animal at the scene.

Subsequently, the Brnik Mountain Rescue Service transported the hare to the Ljubljana University Clinical Center via helicopter. According to Dr. Miran Brvar, head of the toxicology and pharmacology center at the Ljubljana University Clinical Center, the hare’s condition has stabilized.

The animal is currently experiencing swelling in its right lower limb, but shows no signs of poisoning. It has received antivenom treatments, with a second dose administered today. “We believe she will be discharged from the hospital today,” Dr.

Brvar stated. “The situation is under control, and we are monitoring her closely.”
