A contained fire in the difficult terrain of Planja, located in Bovec, has remained limited throughout the day. According to Dejan Logar of the Gasilska zveza Bovec, the blaze is primarily fueled by new underground fire sources. Although the fire remains active, firefighting operations are scheduled to continue into the next day.
Officials noted that the main concern involves falling stones and roots, which present a risk of allowing the fire to spread. The incident, which covers an area of 12 hectares, required a substantial response effort. A total of 108 firefighters participated from multiple regional departments, including Gasilska zveza Bovec, Tolmin, Kranjska Gora, Cerkno, Idrija, Kokra, and Cerklje.
Support was provided by aerial assets, specifically two air tractors and a helicopter. Authorities reported that the air tractors executed 22 drops at the site during the day’s operations. The coordinated deployment of resources highlights the scale of the effort to manage the blaze.
The focus remains on containing the fire and mitigating the risk of expansion due to environmental factors. Firefighting crews are maintaining vigilance to ensure the situation remains under control while continuing efforts to extinguish the underground sources contributing to the incident.
