The DZ adopted the amendment to the law on parliamentary inquiry

New Law Modifies Procedures for Parliamentary Investigation

A new law governing parliamentary investigations has been adopted following proposals from several parliamentary groups. The legislation, supported by SDS, NSi, SLS, and Focus, introduces changes to the process of challenging investigation mandates before the Constitutional Court. The revised law now limits the timeframe for requesting a constitutional assessment.

The Constitutional Court can only be approached within 30 days following the determination of a parliamentary investigation. This contrasts with previous regulations. The initiators of the new legislation contend that the previous framework, established by a proposal from the then-President of the DZ, Urška Klakočar Zupančič, unduly hampered the effectiveness of parliamentary investigations.

They argued that the prior system resulted in prolonged procedural delays and effectively blocked the commencement of investigations. Furthermore, the newly adopted law incorporates judicial protection within the framework of the parliamentary investigation process. This addition aims to safeguard procedural rights during the investigation’s conduct.

The changes represent a significant shift in the oversight of these investigations within the Slovenian parliament.
