The driver who killed six people at a Christmas fair will serve life imprisonment

Taleb Jawad al-Abdulmohsen, 51, was sentenced to life imprisonment for charges including murder and multiple attempted murders. The court determined the gravity of his actions to be extremely serious, suggesting that early release is unlikely. This sentence is not yet final.

The incident occurred on December 20, 2024, in Magdeburg, following a tragedy at a local Christmas market. Abdulmohsen, operating a hired vehicle at an estimated speed of 50 kilometers per hour, drove into the crowded area. The attack resulted in the deaths of five women and a nine-year-old boy, and injuries to over 300 individuals, some of whom sustained serious injuries.

The perpetrator was apprehended at the scene immediately after the incident. Throughout the multi-month trial, Abdulmohsen, who is noted as an anti-Islam activist and a supporter of right-wing extremists, was found guilty of the charges. The court’s ruling reflects the severity of the crimes committed.

The sentence of life imprisonment was handed down by the court.
