Nitrogen is running out for maintenance of the samples in the Biobank that has fallen into disrepair

The JAZMP has issued a statement indicating that temperature increases are anticipated within the current storage tanks should an immediate nitrogen supply not be provided. The warning specifically pertains to the status of various biological samples. The central issue involves samples belonging to individuals whose legal representatives have not completed updated storage agreements, or whose materials have not been successfully transferred to a new storage provider.

Furthermore, the warning covers instances where samples have neither been donated for external research or testing by another legal entity nor have explicit instructions for sample destruction been received. In related judicial action, the District Court in Domžale issued a provisional order on Wednesday. This order mandates that GaiaCell supply liquid nitrogen necessary for the preservation of certain samples.

This requirement applies to the samples of individuals whose parents, acting on behalf of the owners, filed a request for a provisional order with the court by September 5, 2026. These parents had previously established an agreement with Original Cell regarding the materials. The court’s intervention highlights concerns over the ongoing maintenance of these sensitive biological samples.

The provision of continuous nitrogen is deemed critical to prevent degradation within the storage facilities. The court order serves to mitigate potential risks associated with the current storage conditions for these specific sets of samples.
