Mateja Starbek Zorko, head of the children’s department at the dermatovenerological clinic of the University Clinical Center (UCC) Ljubljana, provided details regarding the treatment regimen for a patient named Miloš. Starbek Zorko stated that Miloš began receiving the specific drug on July 3rd and has since been treated on a weekly basis at the dermatovenerological clinic. She explained that the treatment involves a gene drug formulated as a gel.
This gel is applied to fresh wounds according to a prescribed dosage until the tissue has healed. Subsequently, it is used to manage and treat new skin injuries until they also heal. Miloš suffers from a genetic condition characterized by persistent skin issues, which occur both spontaneously and following any site of skin trauma.
Starbek Zorko also noted that the family has prior experience with this medication. The drug, named Vyjuvek, was previously administered to the child and his parents in the United States, with the associated costs covered by the Health Insurance Fund of Slovenia. This history indicates that the family is already familiar with the necessary treatment protocol.
The ongoing care at the specialized clinic continues to manage the complex manifestations of his underlying genetic disorder.
