Sum of causing general danger: fire should spread from the stove

Maribor Police reported that an investigation into a recent fire revealed that approximately 3.5 hectares of forest burned on a steep slope near Ančnikov’s castle, adjacent to the Roman quarry. Investigators also discovered a fireplace site measuring about one meter wide, containing charred logs. Initial, non-official assessments estimate the total material damage to be around 5,000 euros.

Authorities have launched a criminal investigation into the incident, specifically examining potential charges related to causing general danger under Article 314 of the Criminal Code, given the circumstances surrounding the blaze. The fire occurred early on Wednesday morning, around 5 a.m., in extremely difficult and challenging terrain. Due to the steep topography, firefighting efforts were primarily conducted via air support.

The response involved multiple groups, including firefighters from the voluntary brigades of Tinje, Kebelj, and Zgornja Bistrica. Furthermore, the Slovenian Army helicopter provided significant assistance, executing 22 cycles to extinguish the flames repeatedly. The police investigation is continuing to determine the exact cause of the fire and to process the collected evidence.

The response highlighted the complexity of fighting such an incident in rugged, elevated terrain, necessitating extensive aerial coordination to mitigate the spread of the uncontrolled blaze.
